8 Academic Scholarships Awarded
Members of CC88, Inc., a non-profit organization formed by Cornwall College Class of 1988, and incorporated in Jamaica and Florida, recently awarded 8 scholarships valued at approximately $1 million to students based on academic merit and financial need. The award ceremony was held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at the school’s chapel in Montego Bay, and attended by students, faculty and parents. Over the last 4 years, the organization has awarded more than 46 scholarships valuing over 4.6 million dollars to deserving students.
Six scholarships, based on financial need and outstanding academic merits were awarded to the following students:
Justin Brackett
Alexander Waite
Kalel Wilson
Asher Smith
Jaeden Thomas
Nalani Pusey
In fulfillment of their mandate to promote excellence in the area of science, the “Class of 88 – Dr. Karl M. Dhana Scholarship for Excellence in Sciences Award” was awarded to Jahlani Ustanny for the 2022-2023 academic year. He is the fifth recipient of this coveted annual award.
A new initiative for the group was introduced this year by Mr. Rueben Murray and focuses on supporting Business students who demonstrate a passion for Entrepreneurship. The “Class of 88 – Rueben Murray Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award” recipient is Daniel Anderson.
On hand to deliver the awards were Mr Rohan Reid and Mr Robert Smart of the Class Of 1988. Mr Reid spoke of what he calls the 4 super powers: Focus, Discipline, Action & Following Thru. He urged them to stay focus on their goals and avoid distractions. He also stressed that Education is the great equalizer and vehicle to get the life they desire. His message was well received per Justin Brackett who delivered the thanks on behalf of the scholarship recipients.
Mr Jeannite (Cornwall College Guidance Counselor) reminded the students to put their education first to achieve their aspirations and remember to give back when they are able to following the example of the Class of 1988 alumni.
